Sleep Hygiene
A few nuggets from a year of healing myself & my sleep
Sleep—the mysterious, elusive friend who ghosts us just when we need them the most. If you've ever found yourself counting light beams in your room, reciting your grocery list, or deep-diving into embarrassing high school memories at 3 a.m., you’re not alone. Dr Gina Harper Harrison mentioned the shift in our cortisol to wake up to run from the lions in the cave.
Energy can also sit from other people in the corners of your room. Once you lie down and have opened a window for a few minutes, good sleep takes more than just closing your eyes and hoping for the best. From magnesium magic to mood setting, here are some products and practices to make sleep your new BFF. Because let’s be real: it’s about time we stopped seeing the ceiling at 2 a.m. and started seeing dreams instead"
Magnesium Supplements
Magnesium (gummy) or pill form is gentle on the stomach and known for supporting relaxation and reducing muscle tension, helping promote restful sleep and staying asleep. Try this spray for growing pains, neuropathy or to spray on your feet.
Sleep-Enhancing Essential Oils
There are many gaps in menopause care but I convinced a friend at Muse Essence to make these organic Menopause rollers when you feel heightened emotions or exhaustion. Use code Lynn10 at checkout for 10% off. I love it so much for evening 'sundown' into mom-hood.
Weighted Eye Pillow
The gentle, even pressure from a weighted eye pillow helps calm the nervous system by hitting the vagus nerve that runs from top to bottom or forehead to toes.
Golden Milk Evening Ritual
Check out this simple recipe I make in batches & store for several nights in a mason jar. You can use any milk and shift the spices but don’t drink and drive as it puts me right to sleep.
Self Energy (Reiki) Body Scan
A Reiki body scan focuses on clearing energy blockages and bringing relaxation to each part of the body, supporting deep relaxation and readiness for sleep. Mentally go over every major part of your body from top to bottom as you breath and lie down with an eye mask or something in your hands. Or use this as a guide.
Spotify with a Timer- Binaural Beats Session
My Spotify playlist uses specific frequencies to promote relaxation and facilitate restful sleep. This can be experienced in a class or through an app with curated soundscapes. Create your own or search bpms for your sleep zone
Warm Shower or Bath
Epsom salt baths are calming, but I’m too tall for a bath so I opt for awesome shower steamers instead. You can make your own eucalyptus shower scents.
Kindle Reading with Non Blue Light
I travel often so paperbacks stay home. I use the yellow light setting on my kindle for a chapter of a book or my latest quick read is 101 Essays by Brianna Wiest. I do not watch TV at night anymore during the week.
