Season Series: Lessons in Between

From Summer into Fall Finding Organic Releases

Lynn’s Note:

Enjoy the latest installment of the “Seasons Series: Lessons Between Summer and Fall. Leah leaves nothing unanswered, yet nothing is perfectly defined in this space between Solstice and Equinox. Leah Farrell, owner of Oreganically Beyoutiful, lives in the Pacific Northwest where the fall mimics my Pennsylvania days. In Salem, Oregon, just like here, the west coast moves in and out of temperatures, rain, fog and wind. Every hour is a shift, just like Leah’s career and work

Yellow birch leaves fell into my sunroof this weekend, reminding me of a change towards less light and more structure. Summer is still technically in full swing as the days shortened and backpacks are filled each week. It’s not quite soup season but there is a change in the air as I blanket myself in fleece to talk after dinner walks.

I crave community, a core value Being part of a team is so critical at many parts of our lives. In my adult life joining cohorts, masterminds and training courses. Mentorship programs or developmental work groups fed my soul for very long.

In recent years, I’m working to Embody life and work differently as taught through Mary Beth La Rue’s classes and membership. Leah and I joined an Embodied class where she supported me on and off the class calls. Leah combines, like me, many modalities and years of experience as a holistic esthetician, energy worker, to formulate organic, holistic skin care products to empower people to intuitively listen to their skin and embrace the natural aging process.

Her passion is to teach through workshops, a common thread with us.

Leah answered my shift into fall questions, inspired by the WSJ Magazine Cover story Q&A.

Q: Before we talk about shifts in seasons, tell us where and why you got training in aesthetics?

Leah: I love learning and got my esthetics license in 2017. It’s such a gift to bring ultimate relaxation to someone. But I always felt there was more to our skin than what’s on the surface.  In 2020, I took holistic skin care courses with Emilee Fernandes through her Jem Aesthetics Academy.  I learned so much about how our internal environment – emotions, traumas, etc.- affects our overall well-being. When we started the frequency courses, my entire body was buzzing! It was like coming home. Learning about energy, all of it, was so fascinating and has made such incredible shifts in my life.

Q: When seasons shift, energy shifts all around us, opening up new ways of thinking and living.  Describe the methodology you use and why you can do it remotely?

Leah: Healing to me is being so content and present in the body.

Being aware of the energy that’s being put out and taken in. Everything around us is woven together by energy, and when we tap into that energy, we can unlock a world of emotional and physical benefits.

Think of it as tuning into your body’s own radio station, where you can adjust the frequencies to bring about harmony and clarity. I help you connect to what your body is saying by tuning into your unique frequencies.  We work together on strategies that empower you, by creating profound shifts in your overall well-being. This helps you come back to the most true, authentic version of you.

Q: Fall is about letting go on the heels of summer heat. What helps your clients let go?

Leah: Such a huge part of letting go is really being aware of your thoughts.  The mind often plays negative and false stories on a loop. Emotions typically associated with these stories such as guilt, shame, unworthiness, unlovable, anger, all carry their own unique frequency that ripples throughout our entire body and beyond. Getting to the root of where these stories originated and coming to the realization of how incredibly powerful it can be to change these stories, is vital. Trusting in yourself, your intuition, and knowing that you know what’s best for you, can change your entire thought process and bring you back home to you.

Q: As we move from Summer to Fall, why is letting go so important?

Leah: Making the decision to release old stories, give ourselves love, grace, and forgiveness, allows the body to work its magic.  Our soul’s true path comes forward and everything is in alignment. We feel worthy, joyful, lighter, and that radiates out and has a ripple effect.

Q: Mid life is a between season for many women. How can we incorporate this into our home and work lives easier?

Leah: One of the biggest shifts I feel we can make is to turn down the noise of outside opinions and our inner critic and to truly get back to trusting ourselves. To know there is strength in our divine feminine.

Q: Like so many of us, I’m embarking on a new schedule, new workload and new ways to support my family as we leave summer fun and move to school schedules. I have a lot planned and am choosing to trust it will all work out smoothly. Often, this new shift feels clunky, like someone looking for holistic answers to big questions. What do you want to tell someone interested in trying a new way of working on themselves and their career?

Leah: If you’re feeling called to try something new, like energy work, there’s a reason; trust the way you’re feeling.  Find someone you connect with, feel comfortable with.  Read up on different modalities, try the ones that speak to you.  And try not to worry about what other people might think about it!

Q: In recent weeks, since the August Full moon, many people have reached out with curiosity about my holistic approach to healing. As we move into a season, we can move through skepticism of the unknown. It could mean a new role at work or a new class or way of living. How would you recommend readers embrace the shift and move away from fear?

Leah: It is totally understandable to feel skeptical or afraid when trying something new, especially if it’s never really been a part of your “norm”, It can feel extremely vulnerable.

Try to look at what it is that makes you feel this way. Is it because you’ve never tried it before? Heard bad things? Feel shameful or prideful?  Afraid of change and losing a part of who you’ve always been?

Q: Inquiry can slow us down which is a great reminder. Often living in between seasons we rush to the next milestone. Like stores have halloween decor out in July. Once you sit with these questions, what do you recommend to take action? Ruminating too long can be limiting, too.

Leah: First and foremost, I recommend working to find someone you trust and connect with. I offer consultations, which helps connect before committing.

A holistic approach will unearth up so many emotions or possibly traumas that have been buried in the body for a long time.  Feeling overwhelmed and exhausted is normal. But I can tell you, with every fiber of my being, that there is so much freedom on the other side of it.

Every client I’ve worked with and person I have talked to, who made the beautiful, courageous decision to take the leap and try a new way of healing, says it’s always worth it.

Q: Like hitting the upcoming fall equinox, What do you notice most in the arc of healing?

Leah: Landing in this spot can bring immense freedom! When you live in a space of authenticity and love, it allows permission for others to do the same and that is powerful.  I can’t say enough about the ripple effect it has on everything.

Q: Being patient enough to wait to see results is so frustrating in the age of instant gratification. Often my friends, women over 40, put themselves last even if they have pain or physical signs of dis-ease. What’s your message to those who need to come forward and take care of themselves?

Leah: Life is so precious, and you are, without a doubt, so worthy of living your best life.  It can feel vulnerable and scary to make the choice that YOU matter, especially when most of the time it’s seen as selfish. But the impact it can have not only on you, but those around you, is profound.

Taking small steps, every day, toward healing yourself can completely transform your entire being and create huge shifts. Sometimes changing can make other people uncomfortable. It’s invaluable to know that you are not confined to someone else’s ideals or definition of you.

Q: My question I cannot stop asking in this series –what’s one high and one low-cost holistic wellness must have for you?

Leah: Working with different healing modalities, while not always high cost, is always worth the investment to me.

Some of my favorite low-cost wellness must-haves are being in nature, dancing, and meditation.
